Bridgestone, a global leader in premium tires and sustainable mobility solutions, has introduced the Potenza Sport A, its first mass-produced tire featuring 55% recycled and renewable materials certified by the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS. This development marks a significant milestone in the company’s ambitious goal of achieving 100% sustainable materials in its products by 2050.

The ISCC PLUS certification ensures greater transparency and traceability of sustainable feedstocks across the supply chain, from raw material sourcing to the final consumer. With this certification, Bridgestone reinforces its commitment to environmental responsibility while maintaining its reputation for high performance and safety.

Steven De Bock, Vice President of Original Equipment at Bridgestone EMEA, commented on the launch: "The Potenza Sport A exemplifies Bridgestone’s dual focus on innovation and sustainability. By incorporating a high percentage of ISCC PLUS certified recycled and renewable materials, we are advancing our commitment to a circular economy while offering a high-performance solution that meets the demands of modern vehicles."

Developed with Bridgestone’s ENLITEN technology, the Potenza Sport A is designed to enhance sustainability without compromising performance. The tire is fully electric vehicle (EV) ready, achieving top-tier EU label grades for both wet grip and rolling resistance. Its A-grade for energy efficiency and extended battery range underscores Bridgestone’s expertise in creating products that align with the evolving needs of the automotive market, particularly the growing EV sector.

The tire is composed of 35% ISCC PLUS certified renewable materials, including natural rubber and bio-attributed polymers, and 20% recycled materials, such as carbon black derived from end-of-life tires and rice husk ash silica. These components reflect Bridgestone’s efforts to source more sustainable materials, in line with its broader E8 Commitment to environmental and social responsibility.

The Potenza Sport A has already been chosen by Audi as the original equipment tire for its new e-tron GT, a testament to the tire’s exceptional performance. Audi’s rigorous testing confirmed the tire’s ability to meet the high demands of a premium electric vehicle, offering both sustainability and safety at the highest standards.

Manufacturing of the Potenza Sport A will take place at Bridgestone’s state-of-the-art facility near Rome, Italy, which obtained ISCC PLUS certification in 2022. The facility is also ISO 50001 certified for energy efficiency, and the entire production process is powered by electricity generated from renewable sources.

As Bridgestone continues its journey towards a sustainable future, the Potenza Sport A represents a critical step forward in integrating environmental stewardship into its core operations, while addressing the evolving demands of the global automotive market.
