Partnering with Pangaia and Goldwin to drive circular textile innovation, Spiber has launched a biosphere circulation program to create functional and sustainable products.

Spiber, a pioneering company dedicated to sustainable innovation, has taken a significant stride towards establishing a circular solution for material created with the launch of its biosphere circulation program. This groundbreaking initiative enables the upcycling of biobased and biodegradable textiles as well as agricultural waste.

In an inspiring collaboration, Spiber's longstanding partners, renowned sustainable apparel brand Pangaia and esteemed sportswear label Goldwin, have joined the program, aiming to catalyze the transition to circular reuse models within the industry.

The primary objective of this visionary initiative is to foster the development of fully circular textile products that can be regenerated into a lab-grown protein material known as Brewed Protein at the end of their lifecycle. Spiber emphasizes that this innovative plant-derived fiber, produced through its proprietary process, offers a sustainable solution to meet the rising demand for animal and petrochemical-free products. Furthermore, it boasts a significantly smaller environmental footprint compared to the resource-intensive livestock farming required for materials like cashmere and merino wool.

Collaboration for Sustainable Innovation and Industry Adoption

As part of their participation, the collaborating brands have been entrusted with the critical task of gathering essential data and formulating comprehensive product design guidelines. These guidelines will facilitate the decomposition of garments into valuable nutrients, which can then be utilized for the production of upcycled materials. Additionally, this knowledge will serve as a foundation for wider adoption within the industry.

In a noteworthy initial step, Spiber and Goldwin have jointly created a demonstration product, serving as a valuable testing ground to identify and address potential challenges. To enhance transparency and promote awareness, Spiber has also launched a dedicated webpage where users can access detailed information about the materials and chemicals used in the creation of the product.

This pioneering demonstration item will be proudly showcased at the Innovation Hub during the esteemed Future Fabrics Expo in London from June 26 to 28, marking an exciting milestone in the journey towards a more sustainable future for textiles and materials.
