For Fall 2022, Stella McCartney’s newest collection continues the brand’s quest for total sustainability through dynamic designs that embrace ageless dress. Hybridizing heritage and contemporary styles to create a suite of wardrobe staples and statements, 72 percent of the pieces have been crafted from responsible materializations, reminding us that Earth-conscious dress is as chic as ever. In the past, phrases like “sustainable fashion” and “organic material” have held different connotations, recalling anything but a fashion-forward, sophisticated aesthetic. However, time has shown that there is a solution to everything, and Stella McCartney has certainly found the answer to gorgeous, responsible dressing.
Since the maison’s inception in 2001, it has abstained from using any leather, fur, skins, or animal-based glues. Over the course of the past two decades, each collection has seen the addition of alternative solutions to the fashion industry’s many harmful practices, paying attention to details as small as recycled and bio-based shoe soles.
Courtesy of Stella McCartney Recently, we’ve seen the implementation of elements like regenerative Mylo-based garments and handbags (made from mycelium), regenerated cashmere, recycled polyester and elastane, biodegradable and regenerative denim, and traceable wool sourced from regenerative farms—just to name a few. For fall 2022, Stella McCartney-wearers will don 1970s-reminiscent suiting in regenerative wool (like our favorite long, lean all-white pairing), cozy organic cotton knits and oversized outerwear with Fur Free Fur shearling details, and a suite of elevated eveningwear in silky forest-friendly viscose and glittering lurex knits. Highlights include a cheetah printed jumpsuit, seen paired with strappy heels and an emerald-hued leather-free tote; a monochrome red look featuring flare-legged pants, a trench, and a contrasting printed cap; and a black one-shouldered Grecian silhouette, accented with rows of sparkling crystals.
