Mango has recently launched its first circular fashion collection with a texture such as denim, which generates the most environmental pollution. The designs have a circularity criterion to promote the second life of the garments so that they are reusable and recyclable after their useful life.
To achieve greater recyclability, the new garments in the denim collection are designed with 100% cotton. As for the sourcing of its cotton, Mango sources its organic cotton that carries GOTS certifiaction, as well as labor rights certification of the Better Cotton Initiative.
The new capsule collection includes different "Mango Woman" pieces in denim, some with dirty washes, such as pants, skirts, jumpsuits, and vests, and cropped jackets. To achieve minimum waste in the product development process, the garments are designed using 3D digital design technology, which minimizes the number of samples required.
This is the first capsule presented by the company as part of its new sustainability strategy, which aims to incorporate circular design criteria. By 2030, Mango aims for its product designs to be made with 100% of its fibers from sustainable or recycled sources.
Towards a Circular Fashion Future
Mango has also incorporated the capsule with everyday garments such as T-shirts, trench coats, and more. The making of this collection minimized the environmental impact in aspects such as the use of chemicals or water, and incorporated an explanatory graphic for its customers on circular design, minimizing the production of paper labels.
To achieve greater circularity, the new garments in the collection have been designed with 100% cotton, and least 20% comes recycled sources that are certified by the Global Recycle Standard. Also, to achieve minimum waste in the product development process, the garments have been designed with 3D digital design technology to reduce the number of samples manufactured.
Mango has made the garments of this collection minimizing its environmental impact in aspects such as the use of chemicals or water, and has incorporated an explanatory graphic inside the garment for its customers on circular design, thus minimizing the production of paper labels.
Giving Garments Back to the Loop
Looking ahead, the company has set three goals to further develop this strategy. First, Mango is focusing on the "Give it back to the loop" concept, through which it aims to come up with items with simpler designs and a single type of fiber, as it has already done with this first capsule.
Secondly, "Extended life" is committed to the design of more durable timeless design pieces, through the use of materials with physical properties certified by AITEX. Finally, through its "No Waste" line of action, the company is committed to maximizing the use of the materials used and the reincorporation of textile waste.
