Boyish Jeans is doing its part to reduce waste in one of the world's most polluting industries, fashion. Their main goal is to break down barriers and revolutionize the standard of production, encouraging others to join the movement. This sustainable powerhouse brand was founded by Californian Jordan Nodarse. The Los Angeles-based company has been carbon neutral since day one. Each collection focuses on modernized vintage silhouettes, at an affordable price point and where sustainability is at the core of their jeans, which is a high-quality products with authentic vintage washes that are fresh and contemporary. From the labels and buttons to the 100% compostable polyethylene bags, everything they offer is made from recycled material. Their philosophy involves working with ethical factories, offering protection from toxins, chemicals, and dyes, and using ecologically safe and healthy textiles. The jeans are designed in Los Angeles before being produced in a well-defined geographical area of Turkey, where all the workshops are located within a radius of less than 50 kilometres, in order to reduce the carbon footprint. Thus, they use certified organic cotton from Izmir, which is then sent to mills in Adana, and the cutting and sewing is done for them in Istanbul. They keep all the shreds which they send back to Adana for reuse. The workshops are on a human scale with wages above the legal minimum and where safety conditions are guaranteed for all employees.

In addition to achieving Climate Neutral certification in 2019, the company is a partner in the For the Planet movement. Through its partners, it pledges to donate 1% of its annual profits to organizations dedicated to promoting sustainability and equality. They reduce emissions by working with suppliers from a single region, and buy offsets from the Carbon Fund to offset them. It has recently embarked on a mapping of supply chain components, using a blockchain-based transparency system that analyzes the life cycle of products. On its website you can check the environmental impact of each item, as well as take a tour of the supply chain. The brand is certified for global impact, clean industrial practices and social responsibility in its manufacturing processes, and has Cradle To Cradle and Global Recycle Standard certification.   First Sustainable Collections In 2019, it launched its first zero waste collection and has already started to use plant-based elastane, not plastic. They choose dyes made from plants, with 80% less sulfates and which reduce toxins deposited on the skin. The brands sources old fabric rolls and reuses them. They guarantee textile safety, verified by Oeko-Tex. Leather is non-existent in vintage-inspired garments and accessories. Instead, they use biodegradable, non-toxic and antimicrobial fibers, which extend the life of durable and reusable garments. Its “vegan denim” is blended with organic Tencel™ cotton, and washed the fewest number of times with cold recycled water, to keep harsh chemicals out of sweet streams.   Boyish Jeans Creates First Sustainable Swimwear Collection Known as “Vitamin A” the collection produces minimal waste and has a light wash. It includes bikinis, one-piece swimming costumes with square necks, high-waisted shorts and tops, all in shades of blue and orange. Above all, the collection conveys what Boyish is all about: ethical Californian style. The shorts are made of 70% certified organic cotton and 30% Tencel lyocell. The tops are made of 70% conventional cotton and 30% GRS certified recycled cotton.
