Innerwear tradeshow CurveNY presented the Spring/Summer 2016 collections of more than 350 intimate, swimwear and men’s underwear brands in New York this week at the Javitis Center. Taking place on August 2- 4, a host of North American buyers ascended on the three-day tradeshow and were treated to a strong showing from intimate apparel and swimwear brands. First timers included Andrés, Fishbelly, and Lissome Loungewear, as well as Sweet Cacau, Tallulah Love and Vera Vasi - all eager to show-off their latest designs in fabric and silhouette. Needing special mention, Lingerie Française presented an overview of the French approach to lingerie and what to expect from the producer in the SS16 seasons. With project manager, Ulyana Sukack, Lingerie Francaise also launched their new blog ‘Truly French’ into the American market. The tradeshow also marked the women's wear debut from innerwear brand, Naked. The new collection built upon the luxurious fabrications and comfort already associated with Naked's soaring men's line. With clear athleisure directives, the ladies collection boasted bralettes, hipsters, boyshorts, chemises, robes, camisoles, lounge pants, sleepshirts and PJ sets. And pieces were made from Micromodal, eco-friendly Tencel and premium cotton stretch, in a range of colors and prints.Elsewhere, shapewear mogul Vera Vasi recruited leading textile designers and fabric scientists to develop their own patented ComfortWeave material. The new fabric is designed to slim bodies and micro-massages the skin beneath the garment, smoothing out lumps, reducing muscle fatigue and soreness - post-workout.The influence of athleisure was evident. Most labels offered some sort of seamless materials and non-wire bras, as well as jersey or marled-knit fabrics, and soft cottons. It's a look that many women are seeking from their undergarments - the active comfort. And, they are buying into it.Innerwear has been fairly stable this past year, recording sales over the past year of $10.9 billion — off by 1% from a year ago, according to The NPD Group. The group also reported that sales of g-string underwear slipped 7% last year; while briefs, boy shorts and full-coverage panties gained 17%. Less, is definitely not more, when assessing women's intimates trends. More so, comfort - provided by innovative textiles that feel good.
