The Floramirris® line of luxury silk art accessories is fashioned in northern Italy--the epicenter of the world's fashion textile industry. Printed on silk twill, the scarves have a subtle shine, fluid drape and butter-soft touch, yet hold a knot perfectly and expertly finished with hand-rolled hems.

What profession would you take on if you weren’t a designer?

I would probably be a machinist or watch repairman. I have always loved working with my hands, working on complex mechanical objects and working on minutely detailed things. When I was young, those zany, wacky Rube Goldberg machines fascinated me for hours–with all those complicated maneuvers. So very impractical but so much fun!!!

What made you decide you wanted to be a designer?

I made no real conscious decision to be a designer. I painted, drew and sculpted since early childhood–it has been second nature for me to recapture on paper, in clay, or with a camera what I witness in daily life (or conjure up in my imagination). When a friend suggested my photos would make lovely accessories I turned her observations into a business–it seemed like a natural progression.

What do you love most about fashion?

Forget “fashion” — follow your inner muse and just be creative with your clothes! I encourage everyone to find artistic expression in their daily lives. If the pairing of a special blouse with a knockout accessory is as close as someone will get to their inner Monet or Matisse –well, go for it!

Who is your style icon?

I have not seen a single piece by Giorgio Armani that didn’t floor me. They are all gorgeous.

Whats the most inspiring place for you?

The outdoors. I can never get enough of its beauty and brilliance.

Do you have a specific research process when you start designing new pieces?

No, not really. If I find something to photograph and it is successful, I can see the potential of a new design in that image. No research involved–just open-minded observation.

What’s on the radio when you’re working?

I never pair music with creating. I get too drawn into the music to concentrate. I listen to golden oldies or classical when doing business work–bookkeeping, shipping, etc–just not when I’m creating new designs.

What has been the highlight moment of your career so far?

Recently,  I received a hand-written note from the remarkably elegant, beautiful and gracious fashion model, Carmen Dell’Orefice, thanking me for her “Hydrangea Bones” stole, telling me she loves it. To have impressed someone with her heightened fashion sense and style made me feel very good, indeed.
