Responsible companies know that climate change and other environmental issues impact all areas of our lives, which is why they are taking initiatives to reduce their carbon footprints. Even small actions can have a big environmental impact.
The Paris Agreement in December 2015 set society a binding target: that the increase in the Earth's average temperature should remain below two degrees Celsius by the end of the century.
The carbon footprint is the amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions produced directly or indirectly by an individual, organization, event, or product. This is expressed in tonnes of CO2.
Nowadays, almost all the activities we carry out be it mobility, food, manufacturing processes, etc, and goods we consume and use like electrical appliances, household products, boilers, refrigerators, involve energy consumption.
This involves contributing to emissions into the atmosphere and, consequently, participating in the global warming of the planet. To reduce our carbon footprint, we can all take action, even at a personal level. Mainly, it’s a matter of changing certain habits and acquiring others that are more respectful of the environment, and consequently of ourselves.
About CeroCO2
CeroCO2 is an initiative launched in 2005, which proposes concrete actions for climate protection, facilitating and promoting the involvement of all social actors.
The aim of CeroCO2 is to reduce the impact caused on the climate as a result of the development of an activity, whether it is the manufacture of a product, the provision of a service, the development of an event, or any other action carried out by any type of entity or individual.
To this end, it provides tools to calculate the carbon footprint of any activity, reduce it and compensate for emissions that have not been avoided.
CeroCO2 was born as a pioneering initiative in Spain, promoted in alliance by the NGOs ECODES and Acciónatura. In 2011, ECODES became the direct and integrated management of the initiative.
In 2020, the organization has completed 15 years of activity, and we continue to support public and private organizations, companies, and individuals in reducing their CO2 emissions.
15 Years Advocating for Climate Action
Since 2005, the CeroCO2 initiative has been helping to implement concrete actions to address the climate emergency, facilitating and promoting the involvement of all social actors.
During this period, they’ve made a decisive contribution to a large number of organizations making a commitment to the climate, calculating their impact by measuring their carbon footprint, carrying out reduction plans and commitments, and offsetting their emissions in voluntary carbon market projects.
On 8 November 2018, the group was honoured to receive the Climate Reality Award, which recognises individuals, companies and organizations that have excelled in their fight against climate change.
The Climate Reality Awards is an initiative ran by The Climate Reality Project, the organiztion was founded and is chaired by Nobel Laureate and former US Vice President Al Gore, to raise awareness of the risk posed by Climate Change and the need to take urgent action to stop it.
