Rather than resorting to the simplism of reuse, B Corp brand Mud Jeans has found a way of transforming new into old, and waste into profit, with a sustainable method that creates new style concepts.

Faced with this reality of the textile industry, Mud Jeans proposes to live a sustainable fashion in a more conscious way, so that the next generations can enjoy this planet as they deserve. Hence, it hasn’t only put a spin on the way jeans are produced, but it has also created a model of consumption.

Promoting circularity in fashion, the brand’s mantra is to “close the circle”. The CEO of Mud Jeans Bert van Son believes that there is no longer any excuse and that technology is key to creating clothing collections in a correct, sustainable and circular way.

To date, Mud Jeans has recovered 5,000 jeans. Three thousand have been recycled and 2 thousand have become part of its vintage collection. The company's dream is to produce 100% chemical-free jeans, if possible without using water, or at least ensuring a closed circuit in which 100% of the water is recycled, and to produce the first carbon-neutral jeans. In other words, they manage to offset 100% of the CO2 emissions derived from their manufacture or, in other words, their carbon footprint.

Mud Jeans dyes are also OEKO-TEX® 1000 certified, in addition to using GOTS-certified organic cotton. In terms of its recycled materials, it is certified by the Global Recycled Standard, which verifies the presence and amount of recycled material in fabrics and tracks the flow of raw materials from its source to the final product.

Mud Jeans for Rent

He launched his LEASE A JEAN project, which rents jeans instead of selling them. With this type of initiative what is intended is that any garment that has become old and unused again have a new life by being recycled.

When you take them to the store if the garment is in good condition they are conditioned and put on sale on the website, vintage section, with the name of the person to whom they belonged. But if they are very worn, Mud recycles them for the production of new ones, closing 100% the circle of circular economy.

Its productions are based on the use of 100% organic cotton, certified by Better Cotton Initiative, pre-washed with ozone and laser wear, water recycling, its employees and suppliers work in decent working conditions.

With the slogan "close the circle and return your jeans" Mud rents you the jeans for 7.50 euros per month. When you get tired of them, you send them back to Mud and they will exchange them for the pair of your choice. If you don't exchange them, after one year the jeans are yours forever and, if you don't want them anymore, you return them directly and get a 10€ voucher for your next purchase.

Fair Factories

This brand's commitment to sustainability begins with its workers throughout the entire production chain. By being part of the brands(a set of companies certified by B-lab as fair companies), the brand is committed to using the company for the good of the people.

B Corporation is a non-profit organization that certifies companies on their social and environmental performance, public transparency and accountability. Certification is done through a rigorous evaluation system. This system takes into account not only the product or service but the overall positive impact of the company.

Mud Jeans not only wants to create a revolutionary production model, but it wants this to help improve the world we live in. It creates opportunities for growth for all its workers and all the factories it works with. That's why in 2015 it signed the Declaration of Interdependence, which states that B Corp companies are committed to being the change they want to see in the world.
