The International Shanghai Home Textiles show opens today (Wednesday) with some 1,400 exhibitors from 30 countries and regions set to attend. What can attendees expect from the best home textile manufacturers? And what are the Spring 2016 trend predictions?

Organized by Messe Frankfurt, the home textiles event runs over two days – August 26-28 - at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai. Featuring a range of home textiles materials including upholstery fabrics, bedding and towels, carpets and rugs, wall coverings and non-textile curtain accessories - the tradeshow is set out in specific categories based on regions and cultural heritage.

The European Zone features exhibitors from 12 countries, including pavilions from Belgium and Italy. Meanwhile, pavilions from India, Korea, Morocco, Pakistan, Taiwan and Turkey will showcase what the East has to offer in new home fabrics.

A range of Chinese exhibitors have been grouped by region and product category, next to other halls such as the Emerging Players Hall, Glamorous Brands Hall (showcasing decorative fabrics) and the Home Experience Hall, which highlights Chinese fabric trends.

Other regional exhibits are showcasing products from the Binzhou, Gaoyang, Guangzhou, Huzhou, Nantong, Pujiang, Zhenze and Zhouquan areas of China.

A panel of home textile industry experts has already forecst key interior fabric trends for the Summer 2016 season and presented them as four macro-trends

Modern Sensitive

Color: Hazy, powdery, lightly gradated colors; metals over matte finishes; a twilight ambiance – icy, frosty and frozen.

Materials: Natural metals (titanium, platinum); natural materials (washed linen, wools, hides, feathers) are combined with synthetics (lames, iridescent polyester, lurex).

Prints & Embroideries: Winter camouflage motifs; veins; metal flashes; crinkled, shriveled or textured prints imitate minerals; ‘fossil’ flowers and insect motifs as superimposed layers.

Smart Fiction

Color: Natural but supernatural at the same time; phosphorescent green, blue, purple, pink and orange over a dark, dense backdrop.

Materials: Textures reflect the environment; light-embracing nylons; gums, resins, rubber, latex.

Prints & Embroideries: Well-lit, surreal graphic prints and collages suffused with tropical flowers; traces, markings and 3D or holographic prints.

Pop Energy

Color: Military neutrals; earthy, woody, vegetal and mineral shades; gold.

Materials: Raw and functional materials such as brass, tinted glass and raffia; treated noble fabrics such as raw silk, waxed cotton and rattan); naturally textural layers such as leather – all make for something tribal.

Prints & Embroideries: Ikat and Kilim prints; baroque inspired by island fruit, flowers and plants; mini-geometrics and large bands of color; thick multicolored stripes; screens of plaiting or weaving.

Premium Twist

Color: Majestic gold; luminous blue, pink, crimson and purple.

Materials: Precious, shiny materials such as lacquered silks, lamé, tawny leathers and gilded brass; jacquard and brocade; hard stones and veined wood.

Prints & Embroideries: Neo-classic geometrics; surreal patterns; festival prints; diamond patterns; Greek friezes; digitalized empire flowers.
