Unwelcome rain doused LA’s Dolby Theater on Sunday evening's 87th Academy Awards - just as the dolled-up stars poured out of their limousines and stepped onto the red carpet . Fortunately, there wasn’t a wet-look in sight from this year’s leading ladies, who all opted for different designers to dress their potential-win. From Tom Ford to Dior Couture, the leading femmes du film stayed fabulous from crystal-embellished silk to sequin gowns, all draped regally like curtains to the floor.

  1. Reese Witherspoon in Tom FordA front row-er at the Tom Ford FW 15 show in LA on Friday, Reese stayed loyal to the Texan, London-based couturer. The most modern of the four women nominated for best actress this year, the Wild actress picked an off-the-shoulder icy blue Tom Ford gown, which appeared white at first glance. Monochromatic and minimal, the hip-hugging silhouette of the dress appeared to be made from a luxury synthetic blend, with black velvet straps across the bust and waist as points of difference and accentuation.  2. Marion Cotillard in Dior Keeping things French, Parisian actress Marion Cotillard picked a sack-ish white sequined Dior Couture creation for her Oscars night out. The design expertize was in the polka dot sheer cloth, which layered closely over French lace. The Two Days, One Night star had a subtle black slice of fabric at the rear of the gown – a gathered Watteau drop back
  2. which tapered-in the gown billow to form two separate sections of pleats, forming a semi-fish tail.  3. Julianne Moore in Chanel American actress and winner of this year's Oscar, Julianne Moore went for an intricately beaded column dress crafted by the extraordinary, Chanel. “I’m wearing custom Chanel,” Moore told Ryan Seacrest, ahead of her best actress win for Still Alice. “Karl Lagerfeld made this for me.” The gown was dripping in white sequins and was accented with rows of white and black sequin rosettes.  4. Felicity Jones for Alexander McQueen Felicity Jones looked the most regal of the best actress nominees, in an elegant Victorian sub-grey gown with crystal embellished bodice and circular appliqué. The tonal satiny skirt, under the bodice, cupped the floor – sweeping the carpet as she walked. The Alexander McQueen dress was paired with a modern slick clutch and diamond earrings.
  3. Rosamund Pike for Givenchy Haute Couture   Rocking Givenchy Haute Couture, Rosamund Pike had nowhere to hide in a figure-hugging, red lace gown with front split. The ruched dress offered dimension with intricate embroidery. It was a nostalgic throwback to Downton Abbey Edwardia with a visible corset cinching the waist in satiny crimson. Special gown mentions go to: Lupita Nyong'o's pearl encrusted Calvin Klein Collection frock with low-cut neckline; Anna Kendrick's pretty in pink in a floor-length sleeveless gown in floaty silk chiffon and bejeweled halter neck by Thakoon; and America Ferrera's green ombre sheer lace shouldered gown by Jenny Packham. Styled Grecian, it boasted a diamond buckled belt cinching the waist.
