Imbued with luxurious sparkle and therapeutic qualities, precious metals are now being woven into fashion textiles, offering health to the wearer, and a little extra gloss.

Mario Cavelli

Mario Cavelli is one of the most respected fabric producers in Italy. The Busto Arsizo-based mill is meticulous about its metal-woven fabrics, which are crafted using synthetic silver yarns and composites made of 24 karat gold.

Ensuring European quality, all textiles are produced on site using Mario Cavelli-owned weaving looms, dye-works, embroidery and printing machines.

The Harmony Collection is where Mario Cavelli shines. Ideal for curtains, upholstery, and table cloths, the mill makes a wide range of designs and style, which include embroidery, burn-out sheer, metallic print, flock, laser-cut items, and jacquards.

Getting even more high-tech, Cavelli has registered its own trademark 'X-File', which it uses to identify its fireproof products, guaranteed and certified as class 1.

Naturtex

One of the first makers of organic and fairtrade cotton in the America, Naturtex went on to discover the healing properties of metals used in textiles. Since the early Fifties, modern research has demonstrated the health benefits of copper or Cu properties. And now, Naturtex has developed a copper-embedded Qoperfina yarn - a therapeutic natural copper and organic cotton fiber blend for use in fashion apparel.

When woven into a fabric and worn next to the skin, many useful pharmacological effects occur. These include relief from rheumatism, arthritis and stress. Copper also protects the human body from harmful electromagnetic frequencies and help in the recovery from harmful electromagnetic radiation.

Due to its copper content, Qoperfina yarn is anti-microbial with anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties too.

Breaking it down, Qoperfina yarn combines combed organic Pima cotton and organic baby alpaca with Angelina copper staple fiber. It's incredibly soft and durable suitable for knit and woven applications, including apparel, intimate wear, socks, home textiles and furnishings, bed and bath.

Telerie d'Arte

Italy's Telerie d'Arte is one of the most innovative designers working in metallic fabrics this season. Located in Biella, the mill takes a unique approach to the design and manufacturing of metallic textiles. Each piece is a melange of classic metal-yarn fabric and technical elements too, fit for uses in industrial sectors.

Telerie d’Arte fabrics consist of metallic threads in the warp, mostly copper, although finer materials such as gold, silver, and palladium are also used.

Traditional fibers such as cotton, linen and wool are worked in with the metals to obtains a high aesthetic impact and practicality. The smoothness and softness of the classic fibrers still remain, but are imbued by similar colours and a rich gloss from the metals.
