Nylon is a Versatile Fabric

Many designers are using nylon in their ready-to-wear.

When you think of nylon, you probably think of panty hose or nylon stockings, but nylon has countless uses in the apparel industry. It is often blended with other fabrics when some give is needed. Some designers use the super stretchy material to create their ready to wear.

Brunello Cucinelli

Brunello Cucinelli are a husband and wife team with a modest shop in Perugia where they specialize in knits. Usually they work with cashmere and wool. To create their luxurious sweaters, however, for their travel wear, they rely heavily on nylon. For example, they offer a matte nylon Travelwear down vest with hood and double-layer for men.

Caroline Constas

This New Yorker is best known for her off the shoulder tops. While she loves working with that fluffy cotton, she has been known to dabble in nylon, but mostly as an add-on to her organic pieces when she needs a bit of stretch.

Chufy

Sofia Sanchez de Betak has an impressive resume in fashion. She launched Chufy in 2017 and has made a name for herself as a designer. Like many do, she uses nylon with other fabrics, such as an Arab Embroidered Wool Coat' is crafted from a wool-blend, with a mid-length fit, full sleeves, and  an embroidered back patch detail. The coat is 80% and 20% nylon.

Jaline

Jaline was created by Jacqueline Lopez while living in Mexico City in 2011. She was inspired by their vibrant use of colors and the cultural values of the indigenous women, specifically in Oaxaca. For summer 2019 Lopez is offering exclusive Printed bikini’s in 100% nylon.

Leila Ligougne

After a rich experience spanning from Catherine Malandrino to Design Director at Victoria’s Secret, Leila launched her eponymous collection with universal dresses and cover ups reclaiming intricate and heritage craftsmanship. As she’s no stranger to creating swimwear, she give us a 80% nylon 20% elastin.

Lisa Marie Fernandez

Lisa Marie Fernandez is a global luxury lifestyle brand that encompasses swimwear, destination wear and active wear.  Marie lives her designs, documenting how she wears her swimwear and dresses in her travels around the world. Naturally she uses tons of spandex and nylon for her uniquely designed sportswear.

Loup Charmant

Loup Charmant (which means charming wolf) is the soft separates brand launched in 2006 by designer Kee Edwards. Each piece is geared for all-day, everyday wear, through diaphanous fabrics and feminine lines.  Like many of his contemporaries, Edwards uses nylon when a garment begs for it.

Marie France Van Damme

The Marie France Van Damme Luxury Resort Wear collection launched in summer 2011, defined by its superior quality craftsmanship and extensive selection of luxurious fabrics. Naturally as she specializes in resort, she does quite a few swim suits ranging from polyurethane to nylon.

Onia

Onia is New-York based clothing company that focuses on creating luxury swimwear and ready to wear. The company was founded in 2009 by Carl Cunow and Nathan Roman. The duo uses a lot of nylon in their apparel but also in the accessories like their signature nylon tote.
