Premiere Vision Istanbul uniquely caters to fashion professionals hailing from Eastern Europe and the Middle East region. But the Turkish edition is also an interesting, trend-paced tradeshow for western firms to attend; those hoping to break into this emerging fashion market, either as a designer or fabric seller. According to Premiere Vision, Turkey’s geographic location and its ‘one-stop-shop’ capabilities – from growing raw materials to producing actual garments in-house – position it well as a dominant fashion production hub in 2016. “Indeed, with its overall economy projected to grow by 4% by 2016, Turkey is today one of the most dynamic emerging countries, ideally situated at the crossroads of Europe and Asia,” says PV. “It is also and above all an important player in the global fashion industry, thanks to a textile industry with a strong growth (16% of the Turkish industrial sector and the second leading export area), that is vertically integrated - from production of raw materials to garment manufacturing - and rich in know-how."Turkish cotton manufacturer Akin Tekstil is one-to-watch at PV Istanbul in March. Founded in 1956, the weaver is somewhat of a national icon in the Turkish manufacturing family. Akin offers some of the best quality organic fabric; made with locally grown cotton, without the use of pesticides or synthetic fertisilizers. The firm’s SS16 collection boasts melange/mouline wool and reactive yarn dyes with bold weaves, either mono or bi-stretch. Glossy, metallic yarns and fabrics that reshape after being stretched are on offer, while linen and cotton blends, as well as drapy rayons are key. Special finishes and mill washed items are a specialty expected in bright reds and blues. Akin's UV-light reflecting fabric, C-Addition, is a technical addition to the company’s flame retardant fabrics, hugely popular in uniforms and interiors. The firm also supplied the stretch cotton used in the making of PV's hostess uniforms for this year, designed by Arzu Kaprol (pictured above). Established in 1951 as a silk maker, Gulipek Textile is a third generation-run textile firm from the town of Bursa. Also on show at PV, the ultra-technical, fashion garment maker uses modern processes to mechanically weave silky-hued fabrics – mostly, jacquard and dobby – catering to local and global fashion brands. In house designers work direct with clients, using already created fabrics to work-off, before adjustments are made to produce specific garment orders. Best suited for women’s wear, each fabric boasts a selection of raw materials ranging from cotton, wool, linen and synthetics. For more delicate construction at PV, Lila Lace & Fabric offers a mix of very fine laces and heavy guipure-look lace, as well as cotton and lurex-nylon cord yarns with a luxury feel. From Istanbul, where Lila’s yarn factory and dye house is based, some fifty new designs and around ten new colors are developed each season. Highly innovative with synthetics, the Nylon 66 yarn is a key example of working with harsher fabrics to produce luxury cloth. Ideal for high-street lingerie and more affordable bridalwear, the lace is multifilament, making it appear very natural and feel very soft. Premiere Vision Istanbul runs from March 18-21.
