As one of the brand’s new ethical initiatives, Ted Baker has launched a new sustainable suit made from recycled plastic bottles.

Ted Baker is a British luxury clothing, shoes, handbags and accessories company. Due to its clean, classic style, it quickly became the place to shop for some of the best contemporary men's suits. From the beginning, Ted Baker has had a clear, unwavering focus on quality, attention to detail and a quirky sense of humor, so much so in fact that early stores used to provide a laundry service for every shirt purchased, something that earned the rapidly growing brand the title of 'No Ordinary Designer Label'. Everything produced under the Ted Baker name has its personality woven into its very heart. Weaving ethics and responsibly-sourced materials into its sustainability strategy, Ted Baker goes one step further in its eco commitment. It presents a set of fully sustainable tailoring made with fibers from reused materials by the hand of Repreve.

The Hapie tailoring set for women (415 euros) and the Thrilld suit for men (360 euros), are already on sale and have been made of wool and made using recycled plastic bottles. 30 recycled plastic bottles and 3 meters of fabric have been the manufacturing elements used for both suits, available in both the women's and men's collection in a timeless navy blue and finished with a tailored fit. They’re available in both Ted Baker's women's and men's collections, in a timeless navy blue and finished with a tailored fit that slims the wearer. This sustainable adventure has been made possible thanks to the collaboration of Repreve, founders of the leading company in reused material fibers. Its goal is to recycle 20 billion bottles by 2020 and they have already recycled 15 billion to date. In addition to recycled plastic, Repreve has made great efforts to emit less greenhouse gasses and conserve water and energy in its processes.

Sustainability Targets As outlined in its sustainability strategy, Ted Baker has announced that it’s undertaking its plan to hit its carbon footprint reduction targets to reduce absolute emissions by 100% by 2030 in its direct operations, i.e. our offices, stores, and more. It also plans on using cotton that is recycled or Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) certified Cotton by 2024. A big step for Ted Baker is that 98% of its emissions are Scope 3, including raw materials, logistics, and supply chain. The brand is wholly committed to reducing its absolute Scope 3 emissions by 46.2% by 2030. With a lot of work still to do, it has joined the BRC (British Retail Consortium) climate action roadmap and the WRAP Textiles 2030 initiative commitment to put it on the right track. By working with BRC and Textiles 2030, Ted Baker will collaborate with other brands and companies in the industry to reduce its carbon impact. The plan includes submitting its targets to the Science-Based Targets Initiative, with the goal of approval by early 2022. As a member of the Leather Working Group, 65% of the brand’s finishing tanneries are certified by the LWG, which maintains an environmental audit protocol that evaluates the environmental stewardship and compliance of leather manufacturers, whilst also promoting sustainable and environmental business practices.
