Berlin-based cosmetics and dental care Niyok is leading by example when it comes to three in one to zero waste, sustainably made products and eco-friendly packaging.

With a soar in production of cloth bags, wooden cutlery, and metal straws as new symbols of sustainability, some say that zero waste is an essential step in saving the planet. The Zero Waste Movement promotes consumption that has no impact on the planet and the plant and animal ecosystem. It declares war on plastic, the main pollutant of the seas and oceans, and is committed to buying in bulk to avoid waste. It also advocates minimalism and giving things a second life. Therefore, it prioritizes the consumption of products made (and packaged, if applicable) with reused materials, which are recyclable and above all, biodegradable, and most importantly, buying what you really need and do not get carried away by advertising and consumerism. The founders of Berlin-based Niyok, Carlo & John start from the idea that everyday products should be as natural and sustainable as possible. After all, we use them every day, so they have a big impact not only on our bodies but also on nature. This is the basic idea behind Niyok. They focused on creating a brand with natural, certified, and vegan ingredients, sustainable packaging, and maximum transparency. Niyok produces toothpaste using ingredients that are Cosmos Natural certified by Ecocert, that are natural, formulated without fluoride, and not tested on animals. Its formula is made from coconut oil and natural ingredients. The packaging is sustainable, recyclable and zero waste based on chalk.   Natural, Organic, Coconut-Based Toothpaste As Carlo and John tell it, their story sounds so entrepreneurial it's almost unbelievable, but their story actually began in the kitchen at home. There they wondered why coconut oil is so rarely used in dental care when it has such effective effects on the oral flora. After much research and discussions with dentists and experts, we noticed more and more things that could be done better. For example, most kinds of toothpaste contain more than 80% water and contain substances that have no effect. Oral care products are rarely packaged in a sustainable way and are certainly not transparent when it comes to ingredients. That’s why Niyok wanted to develop a natural alternative to all the synthetic products out there and raise awareness about what we put in our mouths every morning. To do this, they approached their project with a very minimalist but critical vision. Thus Niyok was born.

Eco-Friendly Packaging For Niyok, sustainability means more than eco-friendly packaging. Its founders, Carlo & John, consider themselves children of the 1990s. This means as they describe it, that we have faced the threat to our earth from climate change since childhood. And everywhere you look, big corporations show that they simply don't care about this global emergency. And they decide they want to go down a different path. They want to leave behind the practices of big corporations and think holistically about the consumer, nature, and the social environment. Sustainable packaging is a good start. However, if you are really serious, it's necessary to examine your entire value chain. That's why they produce in Germany with green electricity, source their ingredients mainly from Europe whenever possible, ship their products in a climate-neutral way and help reforest forests around the world.
