ba&sh was founded in one of the fashion capitals, Paris, by Barbara Boccara and Sharon Krief, two friends who have curated their firm as "the ideal closet". Competing with established firms in the market, this French brand has not stopped growing since 2003, becoming one of the main consumer “must-haves” in the fashion world and a social phenomenon. Part of its success lies in always betting on trendy, basic, and timeless colors and garments.
Ba&sh is constantly striving for the most effective ways to make garments designed to last, from their design to their eventual recycling. The clothing brand follows the recommendations of the famous butterfly diagram developed by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, a benchmark institution in the field.
Ba&sh’s Plethora of Sustainable Certifications
As an integral part of its collections, ba&sh accessories are also part of our desire to promote ethical fashion. That's why it favors eco-responsible materials such as vegetable-tanned leather for its bags, recycled silver, Kimberley Process-certified diamonds for its jewelry, as well as recycled silver.
As a champion for the circular economy, Ba&sh informs its customers on its website of the correct methods for maintaining materials such as wool, silk, viscose, and leather. Ba&sh already sources various sustainable materials, recognized throughout the industry for their commitment to environmentally-friendly manufacturing. Ba&sh sources GOTS-certified cotton, and leather from Leather Working Group-certified tanneries, and also sources its recycled materials that meet Global Recycled Standard requirements.
Ba&sh Supports Second-Hand
In February 2020, Ba&sh decided to collaborate with Les Cachotières in order to launch its “Rent Your Ba&sh” rental service in France. It aimed to offer a selection of pieces from past and current ba&sh collections directly from consumers’ closets, while encouraging more sustainable modes of consumption, betting on use over possession, the desire to consume differently, and the collaborative economy.
The establishment of second-hand rental and sales services and the promotion of the maintenance and repair of its garments are ba&sh's first actions in the field of the circular economy.
Rental Service “Borrow” Goes Stateside
Following the success of the brand’s “Borrow” rental service in France in 2021, Ba&sh has seen that its customers deeply care about sustainability in fashion. As circularity is now a core part of the brand’s strategy, the initiative is now also available online, and now allows customers in the United States to rent and wear second-hand Ba&sh pieces, for a fraction of the retail price.
To make this possible, Ba&sh has partnered with the resale platform Archive to enable the brand with a more seamless transition into the US market. Archive strives to empower brands to reclaim their resale market, and so their customers can buy and sell pre-owned items directly from their website.
